Biography
My name is Erin Light and I am a graduate from Kennesaw State University! The arts have always been the core of who I am and I want to be able to show as many people as possible how spectacular they are. I have had several experiences in the arts ranging from being a member of the Macy’s All-Star Holiday Choir, to making artworks for my friends and family, to singing with Foreigner in my high school choir. I immerse myself in a variety of new artistic experiences and constantly push myself to grow, and I desire the same for my future students!
I learn the best by doing, so I love being able to try new things and learn as I go. For example, when I painted my first mural for Crooked Tree Cafe back in 2017, I definitely dove into the deep end of the pool and learned how to swim! That experience gave me confidence to paint the second mural that they commissioned from me in 2018. Now in 2021, I have recently begun the process of doing a third mural! I know that the previous experiences, that God has blessed me with, will provide me with all of the confidence and wisdom that I need to properly execute it!
When I am not teaching or making art, I coach volleyball. I have been coaching for around 8/9 years now and was a player from the 7th to 11th grade. It has been a big part of my life and I desire to keep coaching alongside my future teaching career.
Topping off my amazing life experiences, I was able to participate in study abroad in Italy in the summer of 2019! It was 5 weeks of unreal beauty and education! I plan on bringing my experiences, from across the sea, to my future classroom.

Artist Statement
I have always believed that art is how one showcases their voice and provides a deeper insight on life. Being someone who has a drive in them to lead, I make art for the purpose of awareness. With this, the theme that is the most prominent in my works is external expressions of the inner self, drawing inspiration from the struggles of mental illness. I desire for my artwork to push viewers to use higher order thinking skills and form their own intellectual opinions, so that society can progress and develop rather than staying stagnant. My biggest artistic passions are mediums that can get my hands dirty. I love working in charcoal, clay and anything from the sculptural category. I crave hard work, like pouring iron, sawing wood for construction, resin and making sand casts for wax sculptures. I am very hands on and I work in an expressive style, with vigorous brushstrokes and meaningful colors, and focus on the process rather than the aesthetic final product. Even though I work in this kind of style, I still have a profound appreciation for photo-realistic artworks and masterful copies, and I plan on showing works of all kinds to my future students, so they can get a wider perspective.
